Altrincham FC chairman Mark Luby has issued a wide-ranging update on the club's current status and future direction. Speaking via the club's official website, Luby addressed the team's start to the season, significant off-pitch developments, and the ongoing investment needed to achieve promotion to the English Football League.
Mark Luby acknowledged a mixed opening to the National League campaign for Altrincham. The team currently sits 12th in the table with nine points from six matches, having recorded three wins and three defeats. Their recent form shows a pattern of three consecutive losses followed by three straight victories. With seven goals scored and eight conceded, the Robins have a minus one goal difference and find themselves seven points behind early leaders Boreham Wood. Luby stated the clear ambition remains to compete at the top end of the division and mount a serious challenge for promotion.
Significant progress has been made away from the pitch to enhance the matchday experience. The extended Fan Zone at The J.Davidson Stadium is now in full use this season and has developed into a genuine social hub for supporters. A major new addition is the hospitality lounge, Club Alty 1891, which opened for the first time at the opening home fixture against Southend United. For the launch event, the Hale restaurant Sigiriya provided the catering. "We were delighted to have Hale restaurant Sigiriya providing the food and chef for the occasion, and I’d like to give a special thank you to owner Don and the whole Sigiriya team," Luby said.
Altrincham's financial health is strong, with the club being completely debt-free. Since 2023, nearly four million pounds has been raised in investment to fund growth. The most recent round was for seven hundred and fifty thousand pounds, funded equally by Simon Orange and Mark Luby himself. Luby clarified that Simon Orange, who runs Sale Sharks and has other business interests, has no involvement in the day-to-day operations or football decisions at Moss Lane. Continued investment is seen as essential for improving the playing squad, upgrading facilities and infrastructure, and ultimately reaching the EFL. Growing attendances at Moss Lane is another key objective.
Success is not limited to the senior men's side. The Altrincham FC women’s first team won their opening three league games, though they suffered an early exit from the FA Cup. The under-14 boys' team enjoyed a triumphant summer, winning the Foyle Cup in Northern Ireland and parading the trophy during a lap of honour at The J.Davidson Stadium last Friday. The academy pathway remains active, with recent graduates Louis Fallon and Max Beddow securing loan moves to Airbus and 1874 Northwich respectively to gain experience.
Luby also provided updates on several players. Remi Raymond made a positive contribution after coming on as a substitute for Sutton United. There was less positive news regarding Owen German, who sustained an injury during a pre-season game at Wythenshawe Town. With German's current contract set to expire at the end of this season, the club has confirmed it will offer him an extension to support his recovery process. Fans can monitor the availability of all players on the club's injuries page and track the team's progress in the standings. The chairman's update shows a club actively building on and off the pitch. The next challenge is to convert their current mid-table position into a sustained push towards the play-off places, with upcoming matches detailed on the official fixtures schedule.
