Altrincham have signed Norwich City goalkeeper Caleb Ansen on a short-term loan, filling the gap left by Ethan Ross’s season-ending ACL injury. The 19-year-old made his debut in last night’s 2-2 draw with Oldham Athletic, where a rare error led to the visitors’ equaliser.
Ansen arrives after impressing for Norwich’s under-21s and training with the first team under Johannes Hoff Thorup. With Ross sidelined, the National League side needed cover, and Ansen’s hunger for first-team minutes made him an ideal fit. Next fixture: vs Gateshead (at home, 2027-02-16) (19th in the table).
Starting in the 2-2 draw with Oldham, Ansen’s first game saw him fail to collect a cross, gifting the Latics their second goal. Despite the mistake, his arrival signals Altrincham’s intent to blood young talent while addressing their keeper crisis.
The 19-year-old has been exposed to senior football at Carrow Road, travelling with the first team and learning from experienced professionals. He told the Pink Un: "I want to play. Just getting on the pitch, that’s how you improve your craft." His loan offers Altrincham a hungry, developing option between the sticks.
