Altrincham FC defender Eddy Jones has given the club a boost ahead of the new season by committing his future to the J.Davidson Stadium. The 24-year-old left-back has signed a new contract, joining Jake Cooper, Lewis Banks, Matty Kosylo, and skipper Tom Crawford in agreeing new terms with manager Neil Gibson. Jones, who began his career with Stoke City and has won two Wales Under-21 caps, underlined his consistency a couple of seasons ago by playing a key role in the Robins' promotion near-miss, when they reached the play-offs with a fourth-placed finish. He recovered from a knee ligament injury and returned to action last December with a run of form that convinced Gibson he had a part to play in the Alty manager's first full season in charge at Moss Lane. "I'm delighted to be staying at Altrincham," said Jones. "The club have always shown belief in me, and I've enjoyed every minute of my football here. Getting back playing regularly again was a massive personal achievement after the injury, and I'm excited to build on that. There's a great group here, and I can't wait to get going again." Gibson welcomed the breakthrough in contract talks by saying: "Eddy's quality is obvious for everyone to see. He gives us balance, energy, and real quality down the left-hand side, and he was excellent for us after returning to the team. The way he applied himself during his recovery and then performed week after week when he came back says everything about his character. We're delighted he'll continue to be part of what we're building here." Director of football, John Coyne, commented: "Eddy has been an outstanding player for us over a number of seasons now. His performances during our play-off campaign showed exactly what he is capable of, and his response to a significant injury only reinforced the qualities we knew he possessed."
