Altrincham defender Eddy Jones has extended his stay with the club, giving manager Neil Gibson a boost ahead of the new season.

What happened?

Jones, 24, has signed a new deal with the Robins, joining Jake Cooper, Lewis Banks, Matty Kosylo, and skipper Tom Crawford in committing his future to the club.

The defender, who began his career with Stoke City and has won two Wales Under-21 caps, played a key role in Altrincham's promotion near-miss two seasons ago. He recovered from a knee ligament injury and returned to action last December, convincing Gibson he had a part to play in the manager's first full season in charge.

Why it matters for Altrincham

“I’m delighted to be staying at Altrincham,” said Jones. “The club have always shown belief in me, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of my football here.” Gibson welcomed the breakthrough in contract talks, saying: “Eddy’s quality is obvious for everyone to see. He gives us balance, energy, and real quality down the left-hand side.”

What comes next?

Director of football, John Coyne, commented: “Eddy has been an outstanding player for us over a number of seasons now. His performances during our play-off campaign showed exactly what he is capable of.” As Altrincham looks to build on their recent form, Jones' extension is a key move for the club, which finished 51 points behind leaders York in the National League. Their last result was a 3-1 win over Gateshead on 2026-04-25, and they will be looking to carry this momentum into the new season.
