Diego Leon has another troubling night for Manchester United
Before signing for United, Diego Leon stated he would be a flying success, which hasn't quite come to fruition so far for the young Paraguayan since he signed from Cerro Porteno. Leon spent last season in and out of the U21 side, and he has now started the 2026/27 season also under Adam Lawrence. Against Altrincham, it was another night worth forgetting from Leon's point of view. This is because journalist Nathan Salt noticed live that after United conceded, several players weren't happy with Leon in the build-up to the goal. He notes that Leon wasn't the only culpable party, but to have his teammates pointing fingers at him is a bad look.

Leon needs a loan away from Manchester United
The fact that Leon is into season two and yet to really settle or find his feet at the club is not the end of the world, as he made a big switch in life by moving last summer, and that takes time. But he can't go on with another season struggling, and it could be a wiser move for United to instead turn towards the loan market. Leon has qualities that would be better honed in European football at a senior level, and United should be considering this seriously as the best avenue for him to develop. In January, Leon was linked with a loan to Nice, and this could be perfect for him to get first-team exposure and develop in a league where his physicality would be valued. Leon still has a lot of potential, but he might struggle to reach that in the academy right now as he seems to be stuck in a negative loop. A loan suits all parties.
