Altrincham beat Halifax 2-1 to end Shaymen's winless run
Altrincham secured a 2-1 home victory over Halifax Town at Moss Lane on Tuesday, with Jimmy Knowles and Tom Crawford scoring the goals that ended the Shaymen's winless streak in the National League. The match was reported by the Halifax Courier, detailing how Altrincham took control early through defensive errors by the visitors.
Knowles opened the scoring in the 17th minute after intercepting a weak pass from Will Flint and finishing under pressure from Halifax's defence. Crawford doubled the lead in first-half added time with a powerful strike from near the penalty spot following a free kick into the box. Halifax pulled one back through an own goal by Matty Kosylo in the 81st minute, but it was not enough to change the outcome.
The Shaymen struggled to create clear chances throughout, with Altrincham dominating possession and restricting Halifax to few opportunities on target. Despite a brighter second-half performance after the introduction of David Kawa and Owen Bray, Halifax failed to test Altrincham's goalkeeper Owen Evans significantly. Altrincham had further chances to extend their lead, including a breakaway effort by substitute Kahrel Reddin that was wasted.
Attendance at Moss Lane was recorded at 1,861, with 423 away supporters making the trip to support Halifax. Referee Alan Young oversaw a match that saw both teams register five attempts on target and four off target, with four corners each. Altrincham's defensive shape and quick transitions proved too much for a Halifax side that lacked cohesion in the final third.
Looking ahead, Altrincham will prepare for their next fixture as they aim to build on this result. Fans can check the upcoming schedule on our fixtures page for details on the club's path forward in the National League campaign.
